How to Create Generic Charge Profiles

What are Generic Charges?

Generic Charges can be either continuous or a single (1-time) fee to a large group of members.

  • Some examples of a continuous charge would be a Monthly Life Insurance Fee, Death Benefit, Building Fund.  This is any monies paid by Members on a regular basis that are not Dues.

Some Locals include these amounts in the monthly dues payments ($33+$2=$35 Monthly Dues).  When moving to IMSe we need to account for these charges so that auditors or the DOL can see that fees are paid.

  • Some examples of a 1-Time fee would be a “Pass the hat” type Death Benefit. Money is only paid upon a member’s death. A yearly building fee is another type.
How to Create Charges

Due to the complexities of Generic Charge Profiles and requirements for compliance, only the International Office is able to create Generic Charge Profiles within the Local Unions.

When creating new Generic Charge Profiles for a Local Union we must first be sure they are in compliance with the Local Union Bylaws.

Based on the Local Union Bylaws we will categorize the Membership and create the Profile.
